I want the Store to handle all my apps, and now I can't do that with Office.

Check the box Download an offline installer and select the language you want to install Office in. In the Download and install window, select Other options. On the first installation screen, select Continue. This experience isn't great and ultimately undermines the whole point of the Microsoft Store.
